Dojo was a strong young lion who looked much like his father, rich gold in color with a full brown mane. His new queen Johari was a duller tan but beautiful nonetheless, with emerald eyes that sparkled like the morning dew. Both now stood on a high cluster of rocks surveying the new territory. Jenghis (Dojo's father) had claimed it for them and it was theirs to rule. Dojo's two brothers had also been given a land of their own to start a pride, and all four prides were allied, but separate. Together they would become the strongest force on the savanna. Dojo could feel it in his bones. But first they must grow in number. "Borders are secure Sir," a gruff voice said from behind. Dojo and Johari turned to see their first Ground Patrol Captain stroll up from out of the brush. His name was Sasson and he was a large, burly lion, not one to be messed with. Dojo grinned pridefully. "With you patrolling them, of course they're secure," he said. "Where's your brother?" "Shujaa's taking a drink from the north river. He'll be along any time now." Dojo nodded. "Would you like me to do anything else for you, Sir?" He smirked. "Stop calling me 'Sir'. It's weird. We grew up together!" Sasson laughed. It was a deep, thunderous guffaw. "Right then, would you like me to do anything else for you, Dojo?" The young ruler's expression slowly turned serious. "Pray for our numbers to increase," he said, "and patrol the borders one last time before nightfall." "I'm on it." Sasson went off on another patrol. OOC: The only "rules" I ask for this RP... 1) Realistic African animals only, and 2) No magic or "power play". Hope that's ok. Anyone can feel free to come in now, freind or foe.

Sobi was just waking up from a long nap when she realized what time of day it was. She jumped up, eager to get home before dark. "Oh, Grace is gonna be so mad that I stayed out again!" Sobi began running across the grassy savannah not stopping for anything. Her golden-tan fur blended in well with the tall grass; it would be difficult for anything or anyone to see her if she held very still. But she was running fast...too fast. Sobi tripped over a root and came rolling down a hill. "Ouch," she said holding a paw to her head. She was a bit dazed, but she still continued on her way home. Suddenly she stopped and crouched down low. She was sure she heard someone coming...and they were close. She held her breath. "Maybe if I'm quiet, they won't find me and I can get home without any trouble." she thought.
*edit* I feel I must apologize for my bad writing.

An outsider caught a wiff of the pride and walked their way. He was a big, strong lion. A lil younger than Dojo. He was multi-color of brown w/ a light brown mane. He's name was Sahara.

Sasson stopped in mid-step, his ears snapping to attention. There was no mistake.. He'd heard a rustle. This part of the border was very difficult to patrol. A patch of thicker vegetation made visibility low from where he stood. Slowly he continued his walk, paying special attention to a cluster of bushy, flowered plants on his left. He gauged the noise he'd heard to be about five or six yards behind the cluster. Turning his eyes forward again, he resumed the normal pace. A few seconds passed without a sound, and suddenly... Sasson flew out of nowhere, flipping the stranger and pinning her on her back with a thud. A look of shock came over his face when he saw the intruder was female. He had been expecting a rival male or a leopard. Very rarely did a lioness travel alone. "State your name and business here," he demanded through semi-clenched teeth.
Back at the rocks Dojo and Johari were enjoying the early evening breeze. Johari stretched herself long on a cool, lower ledge, letting one paw dangle. Dojo made several short glances in her direction and cleared his throat before beginning one of the most difficult conversations he would likely ever have. "Jo?" "Mm?" The lioness twitched her tail slightly. "I was thinking..." He cleared his throat again. "You know it's expected of us to...to..." He paused. "How would you feel about...well...cubs?" Johari's head shot up and she looked at him curiously. "You're...you're not smiling," Dojo mumbled with a nervous chuckle. He suddenly felt very embarrassed and turned his face away. "Dojo, I..." She stopped talking as the wind briefly changed direction, whipping a new scent in her face before continuing its original path. Her ears perked and she looked around frantically. "Did you smell that?" Dojo sniffed the air quickly. "No. What was it?" Johari was frightened. "I know what it wasn't.. It wasn't Shujaa or Sasson." She looked around again.

Sobi's green eyes widened in fear when the large male pinned her. "Please don't hurt me!" she pleaded. "I was only taking a walk! My sister will be worried if I don't get home soon... please let me go!" She wasn't sure why this lion was upset and now, not only did her head hurt from her tumble down the hill, her back hurt too because of the impact the bigger lion hit her with.

Sasson snarled, stepping off of the lioness but still watching her. "Is your nose broken? These boundaries were marked less than an hour ago!" "Sasson!" A thin, grey-coated lion trotted onto the scene. Sasson rolled his eyes. "Here we go." "Shame on you, ya brute," the grey lion scolded. His tone was half playful and half serious. "Weren't Dojo's orders clear enough for you?" "I thought she was a rival." "Does she look like a rival to you?" He turned and smiled at the lioness. "I'm Shujaa, Miss," he said. "And I apologize for my brother's needless hostility."

Sobi got up, looking from one lion to the other. She was still nervous...after all, two lions were more dangerous than one. She didn't want to hang around, even though the gray one was being nicer than the one that sat on her. She looked around behind her then at the brothers again. Without thinking, she darted off in the opposite direction. Sobi knew she was fast, but she didn't know how fast they were, or if they would chase her. She hoped they wouldn't. "Just get home as fast as you can..." she told herself between breaths. "Just get home."

Sasson started after the lioness but Shujaa cut him off. "Let her go," he said. "She's scared enough as it is. If she's from around here we'll see her again, and then we can take her to Dojo. But not now."

OOC:( <-- whatever that means (: ) Thanks for waiting
Sahara was gazing at the lioness thru a deep thicket. He smiled, wishing he was living that good life. Sahara had been a soldier in his old pride, as a matter of fact, he was the best. He had left his old pride to go on alone. He didnt like the new male that led everything. Sahara was a bit of a rebel. He is defensive on the outside, but if u got to know him he could be your best friend and love someone to no end.

OOC: "OOC" stands for "out of character". There's also "IC", which means "in character", but I've hardly ever seen that one used. Dojo hunched down slowly, eyeing the grass. "Is someone there?" he asked. "Show yourself. We'll do you no harm."

When Sobi finally got back to her pride, the first animal she ran into was Teara, her younger sister. "Sobi! Where have you been? Grace has been worried!" Teara said, hugging Sobi. "If I told you, you wouldn't tell Grace would you?" "No." "Good." she smiled. "I was just outside the western border. The sun was shining so nicely there I fell asleep and didn't awake till the sun was going down. So I started running home when I ran into these two lions. I don't know who they were...I've never seen them before." "Sobi! You really should be more careful!" Teara interrupted. "I know, I know. Anyway, so I ran away but they didn't follow me and I came straight here." Sobi paused for a second. "Wait, where is everyone?" "Out looking for you instead of hunting. We probably won't eat tonight." Sobi hung her head. "I'm sorry. I guess I better let them know I'm back right?" she smiled weakly. "Yeah, I guess you should." Teara said with a playful shove. Then they both threw their heads back and roared. "There, now they know you're back." Teara stretched, then continued. "So...what did these two lions look like?" Her eyes twinkled. "Oh, they were like," Sobi scrunched her nose, "like, old. OK, well not old old, but older than Grace. Maybe even older than Sokoto. But they were almost cute for being adults." she giggled. "Do you think we can go back there tomorrow together?" "Sure, I can just tell Grace I fell asleep and lost track of time. She shouldn't have a problem with us going back." Just then, Sokoto, Grace and the rest of the pride returned and asked the question Sobi expected they would ask. "Where were you? We were worried!" "The western border, Sis. I fell asleep and didn't wake up till late. It's so nice out there, can I go back tomorrow if Teara comes with me?" "I suppose so, since Teara will be there to keep you awake." Grace said. Sobi and Teara grinned at each other. ooc: excuse the "lonely rping" here. I just felt like I needed to write about what happened between Grace, Sobi, and Teara. *edit* Sokoto is Grace's "husband" just in case you were wondering. also, I'm not very good at writing descriptions into a story so if you want to know about my chars, go to the "rp chars" forum XD

OOC: You're doing fine, Jess. I liked the dialogue! Dojo's eyes narrowed as the wind changed and he too detected a stranger. It was lion-scent, male, adult, and there was no fear scent on him even though he was here alone. "I know you're there," he said a bit gruffer now. "And I know you're alone. But I am not. Show yourself now or I'll have Ground Patrol deal with you in their own way."
